September 27th has always been like a national holiday for me. I always find some type of way to celebrate my day of birth. And moving abroad was not about to stop the party. Sure I couldn’t indulge in all of the sweet treats and freebies from home that I typically enjoyed, but I wasn’t about to let my day pass without some type of celebration. I sent the word out to my village here in the UAE, and boy did they show up! Many of the people who made the journey with me to the UAE, those who had been living here for some time, and even my new work family came out to enjoy dinner with me on my special day. We literally took up an entire section at the restaurant. My heart was overjoyed, and my belly was full. As I looked around the table, I thanked God that He had blessed me with another year, and that He had given me friends (who had now become family), and that same framily chose to shower me with love. First birthday abroad was a success!
